จากผู้สร้างที่ปฏิวัติวงการภาพยนตร์ของ พิกซ่าร์ สตูดิโอและ.ผู้ กำกับฝีมือเยี่ยมจาก Monsters, Inc สู่การผจญภัยบทใหม่ที่จะทำให้คุณฮากลิ้งไปพร้อมกับคติสอนใจที่ว่า ท้องฟ้าไม่ได้กว้างไกลเท่าที่คุณคิด

คาร์ล เฟรดริกเซน คุณปู่จอมเฮี้ยวช่างฝัน คือเอดีต เซลส์แมนขายลูกโป่งที่พกความพร้อมเต็มร้อย สำหรับการเดินทางสุดตื่นเต้นสู่ความสูงสุดขอบฟ้า ได้เหินฟ้าสู่อาณาจักรอันไกลโพ้นที่เขาใฝ่ฝันในวัยเด็ก โดยการผูกลูกโป่งนับพันๆ ใบ เข้ากับตัวบ้านเพื่อให้มันลอยได้ แต่โชคชะตาก็ส่งรัสเซล นักสำรวจวัย 8 ขวบที่ไม่เคยเดินทางไปไกลกว่าสวนหลังบ้านของตนมาอยู่ผิดที่ผิดเวลา ก็ที่หน้าประตูบ้านคาร์ลนั่นเอง!

คุณปู่และเจ้าหนูจึงกลายเป็นคู่หูผจญภัยที่ไม่ได้เข้ากันซะเลย แต่ทั้งคู่ได้เผชิญหน้ากับความสูงสุดหวาดเสียว และเพื่อนร่วมทางที่ไม่ธรรมดาอย่าง ดั๊ก สุนัขพร้อมปลอกคอพิเศษที่ทำให้มันพูดได้ รวมไปถึง เควิน นกยักษ์ที่บินไม่เป็น และเพราะทุกชีวิตทั้งหมดที่ติดอยู่ในป่าผืนใหญ่แห่งนี้ทำให้คาร์ลเข้าใจว่า การผจญภัยที่ตั้งตารอคอยก็ไม่ได้เป็นการผจญภัยที่ยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุดในชีวิตเสมอไป
