เนื้อเรื่องย่อ 

ไคลฟ์ (เอเดรียน โบรดี) และ เอลซา (แซราห์ พอลลีย์)  คือ นักวิทยาศาสตร์ซูเปอร์สตาร์ ซึ่งมีชื่อเสียงจากการตัดต่อดีเอ็นเอของสัตว์ต่างๆ เพื่อสร้างลูกผสมแปลกประหลาดข้ามสายพันธุ์วิวัฒนาการ ทั้งสองรักกันพอๆ กับรักงานที่ทำ และอยากพัฒนาไปอีกขั้น นั่นคือ ตัดต่อดีเอ็นเอมนุษย์ ทว่าผู้สนับสนุนด้านเงินทุนไม่เห็นด้วย พวกเขาจึงตัดสินใจทดลองแบบลับๆ ผลที่ได้คือ เดร็น สิ่งมีชีวิตมหัศจรรย์ที่วงจรชีวิตจากแบเบาะไปสู่ช่วงโตเต็มวัยเป็นไปอย่าง รวดเร็วในเวลาแค่ไม่กี่เดือน
ไคลฟ์และเอลซาพยายามเก็บเดร็นไว้เป็นความลับ ในขณะเดียวกับที่ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างทั้งสามและชีวิตที่สรรค์สร้างขึ้นก็ เปลี่ยนแปรจากเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์ไปสู่ความเป็นส่วนตัว ท้ายที่สุด เดร็น พัฒนาก้าวล้ำเกินกว่าที่ทั้งสองคะเนไว้ในระดับเลวร้ายที่สุด และกลายเป็นฝันร้ายสุดสยองของพวกเขา
